Art Video

In relation to our topic last week on experimental/avant-garde films, in my intermedia art class, we were assigned a project that asked us to play around with elements of time and space using light, image, and sound. Many of us decided to create some form of projection or short film for this project in order to portray a particular idea or convey a certain meaning. I also did a short film for this assignment, but I feel it is more artistic than it is experimental. However, experimental films are a form of art, as are films in general. So, I decided to post this video as an example of the relation it can have to what we were discussing.
It is based on an idea of storage, which was a theme of my previous project. However, in contrast to my previous project, this short film is meant to portray a negative connotation of storage. I wanted to show how, over time, internal conflict and turmoil, whether it be stress, bad memories, personal problems, pain, etc., can build up inside of us. If we have no outlet or means of releasing this building pressure, we will eventually burst or be consumed by it. Also, this type of pain may not always be obvious on the outside and it is likely not many will notice unless they take the time to pay attention or listen. The screaming emphasizes this point and works as a symbol for the inner conflict. The white background also acts as a large, empty, open space, making the subject feel small and alone until she is completely consumed by this pressure, or the white background.
It was really interesting and great getting to use ideas and techniques from film in order to build and create this movie. It was really fun to do and I enjoyed getting to create it and combine the ideas from these two classes.
